Backed by her party, Pheu Thai, and its coalition partners, she is positioned to become Thailand’s second female prime minister and the third leader from the Shinawatra family. Her candidacy comes after Thailand’s recent political upheavals, including the dissolution of the progressive Move Forward party and the end of the military-appointed Senate’s veto power over prime ministerial candidates.
